Lieber began slowly and was outrun in the early stages, but worked his way up next to the inside rail on the far turn, finished fast under a drive through the last furlong and outgamed Toots Mook at the end. The latter was away well, showed brilliant speed and set a terrific pace, but tired under punishment in the last sixteenth. Scarfell ran to his best form and was a keen contender at all stages. Daly cased Miss Leeds up at the end. Massive finished with a rush. Herman Johnson closed a big gap. Governor Orman showed speed, but failed to stay. Overweights Baby Willie, 2 pounds. Reside was on the outside of the leaders all the way and was carried very wide when entering the homestretch and bumped into at the furlong post by Irene A., but finished fast and drew away at the end under pressure. Fire Alarm began slowly, but moved up fast on the turn into the homestretch and outgamed IreneA. in the final drive. The latter is a rapid breaker, sprinted away from the others in the first quarter and set a fast pace, but failed to stay. Tanager saved ground all the way and tired in the last furlong. Ormondes Right went to the leaders easily on the far turn and drew away without urging in the last furlong. Royal Window was easily best of the others, was taken back from the early pace, but was unable to stand off the winner when the latter challenged on the turn into the homestretch. Peter Paul outlasted Joe Coyne in a sharp drive head and head all through the last sixteenth. Nattie Buinppo and Mortlake showed speed. Corrected weights Joe Coyne, 104. Won easily; second the same; third driving. Bert Osra broke in motion on the outside and wore Blue Coat down on the turn into the homestretch, caught the latter tiring in the last sixteenth and won going away, running the race of his career. Blue Coat ran to his best form, was away well in his stride, set a fast pace until well into the homestretch and then tired. Garrett Wilson, crowded back and apparently out of it when the start came, was forced to work his way up on the outside, closed a big gap and finished with a rush and would have won with an equal start. Kilts was sore when going to the post. Thespian was bumped into and fell before they had gone a quarter. Scratched C462S Nervator, 111; 637C22Peter Knight, 115; C40S0 Adare, 111. d. Gold Run moved up with a rush when going to the fourth jump and, taking the lead without much effort, after Opuntia and Bob Alone came to grief, had something left at the finish. Bery Waddell is a good fencer, ran to his best form under a good ride and came gamely after taking the fifteenth jump, but tired in the final drive. Howard Lewis jumoed well, but was always outrun by the first two. Opuntia was going easy when he refused and propped himself at the fourth jump. Bob Alone was right in behind Opuntia at the time and when he propped unseated his rider. Wool Dealer lost his rider after taking the seventh jump. Overweights Wool Dealer, 2 pounds.
