January 15. — It is altogether likely that a number of owners with small stables will remain here throughout the coming summer. If the plans of the Louisiana Driving Club, which was organized about a month ago. are carried out there will be occupation for their horses. This club has about loo members, each holding a small amount of stock. It bought a tract of laud across the Orleans canal, opposite to City Park, and made a ileal with a contractor who is to have ready by May 15 a half mile track, witli grandstand, stables, etc. A force of about twenty-five men Is now engaged in the work of grading. The grandstand will be built on the bauk of the canal and a foot bridge thrown across the water. In this manner excellent street car service is to be had. There will be running and trottiug races about three afternoons each week. The purses, of course, will be small, but there are some among the owners here who feel that they can earn more in the long run than if they should ship north aud take their chances at the larger tracks.
