Californias Anti-Bettinq Bill. San Francisco. Cal., January 15. — Assemblyman John II. Kshelmaii, of Berkeley, introduced in the Legislature at Sacramento yesterday a bill prohibiting betting on horse races in California. The measure is aimed directly at the tracks at Oakland and Los Angeles. It is expertly drawn and if it l e-cotnes a law will put a stop to betting at the tracks and elsewhere in this state. The author of the bill claims to have sufficient support to pass it. but this is not generally lielievod here. Iresident T. H. Williams, of the California Jockey Club, knowing that the bill would be introduced, went to Sacramento several days ago. When he returned to this city lie said In- had no fear that Mr. Kslielman would succeed in his efforts to , prevent racing by stopping the letting.
