Amis Bill in Arkansas. Little Bock. Ark., January 15. — Senator Amis. who is regarded as the mouthpiece of C.overnor Jeff Davis in the legislature, wants to close up the racetracks in this state. He believes the means to that end is ■ law to prohibit betting on the races. He introduced his bill In the senate l»efore any of the commit tees were apjiointed and there lieing no committee to which it could be referred, the senate by unanimous vote today ordered - « copies of it printed for general circulation. The bill makes the bettor as guilty as the l ook maker. It provides for the first offense a fine of not less than nor more than 5: for the second offense not less than 5 nor more than 00: for the third MM not more than .00 tine and 1 from thirty days to six months imprisonment, the 1 latter punishment for all offenses after the second. Kvery wager is held to be an offense. The bill ] further provides for the removal from office of any I sheriff, constable or policeman who shall fail to carry out the provisions. It is specified that the law is to l e in effect immediately after the pass- I age of the bill. It is said that Senator Amis will urge a vote on the measure l efore February 4, which is the date scheduled for the opening of the meeting at Oaklawn. ! , , v
