ANNOYANCE IS TO MAKE HER DEBUT. Only Two-Year-Old by Meddler in America Will Start Tomorrow. Annoyance, the bay filly by Meddler Victoria IV., which is carded to start in the sixth race at Shecpshead Bay tomorrow, is Uio only two-year-old by that famous sire that will race in this country this year, unless W. K. Vanderbilt should take a notion to send one of his three two-year-olds by Meddler over from France, and that is not likely. The late W. C. Whitney had some sort of an aversion to Meddler when lie was mapping out his plarts for the breeding season of 1901, and tie only sent five of his mares to the court of that great horse. They were Harmonica II., by Hanover Ueclare; Hessic, by Hanover LIda Stanhope; Louise N., by Luke Blackburn Louise T.; St. Calla-tine, by St. Carlo Callatlue, and Victoria IV., by Ten Brocck Nell Swift. These five mares were sold at the dispersal sale of Mr. Whitneys stud in October, 1001, the first named four being sold to John S. McDonald for Mr. Vanderbilt and sent that winter to his establishment at Poisey in France, where the following spring all save St. Callatine had foals. The colt out of Harmonica II. was named Beach; the colt out of Louise N. Is known as Schuyler, and the filly out of Hessic is called Tessic. The two colts have stake engagements in England as well as In France. Victoria IV. was sold to Karl Jungbluth of Louisville, Ky., for ,100 and in the spring of 1005 she foaled Annoyance at the Waldeek Stud. Last summer Mr. Jungbluth concluded that he would forego the sport of racing because of increasing demands on his time by the tobacco business and he sent the yearlings from his place to the market at Shecpshead Bay and in September Meddlers only foal of 1005 in America was knocked down to Woodford Clay for 50. Mr. Clay named her Annoyance, and she showed him some fast trials as a yearling. When he took his string to Lexington from the farm near Paris last spring she again displayed speed, but before racing time came she was slightly oft and it was decided then to go slow with her. Now that she has been named to start, it may be taken for granted that she is ready. Annoyance lias an unnamed full-sister in England which won the Addiscombc Plate as a two-year-old for Mr. Whitney at the Gatwick August meeting in 100I5. This unnamed filly was foaled in this country in 1001 and was taken to England by Mr. Whitney in the fall of 1002. She was making her first start In the Addiscombc Plate, which was a selling stakes, and when E. J. Percy bid her up to Mr. Whitney let her go. She never won another race. Victoria IV. is a half-sister to Waswlft, Swiftly, Little Ben, Dr. Eichberg, Ida Carby and Swiftmas, and she is the dam of Quatre, Lanky Bob and Puritan Girl.
