THIRTY-FOUR FALSE STARTS. Vigilant, in the London Pink On, has the following to say about false starts: "One of the most miserable experiences we ever had oil a race course was the start for the Derby in ISO.-!. It rained in torrents, and first one horse broke away and theti another, witli Tambour Major standing still. For nearly an hour we watched that irritating and wearying spectacle and when at length the flag fell Tambour Major continued to stand still. For this race there were thirty-four false starts. For the Derby of 1SG2, it is well known that if Lord Stamford had lodged his objection in time the race would have had to be run over again, and what a pretty statq of affairs that would have been. The horses, or some of them, were on the wrong side of the post when the flag fell. This, of course, could not have taken place with the gate. "
