FOOD FOR FOLLOWERS OF FAVORITES. Favorites gave a more satisfactory account of themselves at Kenilworth this summer than they dld a year ago, yet the percentage of winning first choices was about three points below normal, and there were altogether too many odds-on propositions to please the general public. Of the 1S1 races decided, 70 were won by first choices 11 per cent. Second choices won 37 and third choices and outsiders accounted for the remaining 75 races. There were 4S odds-on choices, of which 33 won. The shortest price of the meeting was 1 to 15, Preen, July 3, when he romped away from Irene A. The longest price was 50 to 1, Louis Boederer, Thursday last. There was no day on which all the favorites were defeated, and likewise no day on which all of them won, five out of six, July 15, being the best day. This showing was so superior to that at the recent Latonia meeting that it must have been refreshing to the followers of form who turned their attention to the Buffalo track during the last week. At Latonia favorites won only 4S of the 1S7 races won 20 per cent. There were only 27 odds-on choices at that meeting, but thirteen of them were defeated. There were six days on which 110 favorite won. The "cinch players" had the lime of their lives to keep their heads above water, and it will be many a moon before they forget the oxeriences or tliose thirty days from June 10 to July 13. The showing at Windsor, though the ring was syndicated, was bettor than at Latonia. During the twenty-live days from Juno 15 to July 13, 159 races wore run, and 00 first choices 30 per cent won. There was no day on which no favorite won. The number of odds-on favorites was 22, and just half of them were defeated. In this case, however, the odds-on choices were rather more the favorites of the layers than of the public.
