.RATTLER, VETERAN OF VETERANS. A curiosity in a racing way is the horse Rattler, now running at Butte, Montana. Rattler is programmed as a chestnut gelding twenty-three years old by Sam Bass Dolly, she by a son of Hunters Lexington. His owner is Dan BIcvins o Helena, who is eighty-three years of age. While there is no trace of the breeding of this horse in the Stud Book, there is good reason to believe that he is four years younger than stated on the Butte program and that he is the same horse raced by J. W. Fuller, the Texas turfman of Tokalon and George Arnold fame, back in the nineties. Rattler in those days was programmed as a chestnut gelding, foaled in 1S8S, by Sam Bass, out of Mollie Steel Dust, and at times as out of .Mollie. This Rattler was a fast horse at a short distance and ran frequently in Texas and Arkansas, beating April Fool and horses of his kind.
