CROKERS RHODORA IS A GOOD FILLY. Half Sister to Orby Runs White Eagle to a Head for Rich Stakes. London, July 20. Richard Crokers Rhodora, the two-year-old half-sister to Orby, winner of the Epsom Derby and the Irish Derby, was beaten only a short head by W. Hall Walkers White Eagle in a sensational finish for the National Breeders Produce Stakes of 5,000 at Sandown Park this afternon. White Eagle was a 2 to 5 favorite, while the betting against Rhodora was 7 to 1. The distance was five-eighths of a mile. Mr. Croker receives ,000 out of the stakes. Rhodora is a brown filly by St. Frusquin, out of the American mare Rhoda B., by Hanover. White Eagle is a chestnut colt by Gallinule Merry Gal and is a full brother to Ulpian and half-brother to Merry Moment. While Eagle won the Woodeote Stakes at Epsom and the Ascot Biennial Stakes in such convincing fashion that his victory today was a foregone conclusion ami the showing of Rhodora against him was a great surprise. Rhodora won the Cadogau Plate at Leopardslown on the last day of May, giving Temaraire a pound and beating liim easily by two lengths, but when these two came together a fortnight later at Curragh, the gray colt beat Mr. Crokers filly a length for the Waterford Testimonial Stakes, though he was carrying only 119 pounds to her EiO. However, these races in Ireland were not given as much consideration here as they shouU have had.
