SAME HALL, BUT SOME HEAVIER. John W. Hall, trainer of Goldproof and other horses, stayed in New York to see the Futurity before leaving for Latonia, whence his horses had already been shipped. "Say, I know your face, I believe," remarked a tall man, coming upon Hall as the Kentucklan vainly tried to see what the Futurity field was doing at the post; "but at that, It cant be." "Cant be what?" asked Hall patiently. The stranger began to giggle confusedly. "Let It go," he said finally. "The ideas too daffy." . . "Here, what ails you?" Hall eyed him threateningly. "Well, were you ever a jock, then- demanded the other. Hall weighs 250 at present, and hed harry an elephant considerably if he were chosen as mahout for the beast. "I sure was," he responded cheerily; "why?" "Rode for Gene Leigh, bout ten or fifteen -years ago?" Hall coyly admitted it. "Ill be good, gol darned," exclaimed the questioner. "If this aint the limit. To think you was once a little bit of a guy. Dont seem possible." As Halls extensive back disappeared through the paddock gate this man followed, gazing at him with wonder. "Lord, how times do change," said he.
