CONDENSED HISTORY OF THE PARTRIDGE STAKES. Stratlimeath was tlie first winner of the Partridge Stakes and, by way of showing that It had fallen to a" good" horse, "came out to Chicago the following year and won the American Derby. Other good ones that won this "event were Harry Reed, distinguished as a crack sprinter in England and this country; One I Love, a very line filly; Central Trnt, a game and sturdy racer over any sort of track, and Gay Boy, speedy and a great weight carrier. Ah of the last four winners were good race horses, and Yankee Counsel, which unfortunately succumbed to disease, was justly accounted one of the best two-year-olds of his year.
