CALIFORNIA OAKS NOMINATIONS. Of recent years the California Oaks has been a disappointing race In that its winners did not afterwards show much merit as racers. But that is a condition that is bound to be improved upon and quite probably the Oaks of 1900 will fall to a filly that will subsequently show herself entitled to the distinction attaching to an Oaks winner. The event closed with seventy-five entries and among them are such proved good ones as Rose Queen. Achieve, RIghteasy, Helen Harvey. Madeline Musgrave,- Anna L. Daley, Ornate. Meddling Hannah, Vibrate. Instant. Micaela, Obey, Mauretania, Ocean Queen. Cotytto, Carmisa. Miss Highland. Sorrowful. Osorine. Rubia Granda., Rosevale. Figent and Phillistina. The conditions of the race and its nominations are: California Oaks For three-year-old fillies of 1909 now two-year-olds. 5 to start: 0 forfeit; ,000 added, of which 00 to second and 00 to third. Winners of a stakes for two-year-olds in 190S after the closing of this stakes or for three-year-olds in 1909, to carry 5 lbs. extra. Others that have hot won at any time a stakes of ,500 or two stakes of any value In 190S-1909. allowed 5 lbs. ; maidens, 12 lbs.. One mile and a sixteenth. To be run Saturday, February 27, 1909.
