The racing season at Kingston, Jamaica, opened Wednesday, December 16, and the American horses entered n the various races swept the card. C. T. Boots, who formerly raced his horses, under the name of the Elmwood Farm, is not actively interested In racing at present, but has a few good two-year-olds that he may campaign at Santa Anita Park after the first of the year. J. Richards, the American jockey, who has been riding in Russia with considerable success, has arrived in New York and says he will take Herman Radtkes place with the stable of JI. Lazaroff, who is the principal horse owner in Moscow. George Hartley writes from Los Angeles that his nine-year-old chestnut gelding, George Vivian, bv Bootmaker Pearlcle, died at New Orleans recently, The horse ran away while being exercised and sus- taincd injuries of such a nature that he had to be destroyed. It Tvas said at the headquarters of the Jockey Club in the Windsor Arcade that racing dates for next season would not be announced until some time af ti-r New Years. It was intimated that the racing as- sociations were inclined to wait until certain court cases have been decided. Sam Hildreth is the only owner at Santa Anita who has an entry in every stake event of the season. With such an extensive establishment to eat up profits he has to win a few of these stakes to break even, and has made a good start by annexing one in the lirst three that have been run. The valuable broodmare. Elf, bought by Mr. Dy-ment at the Lexington sales, proves to be not in foal. She will be sent next season to Jlissouri to be bred to Sain. Foals by Nasturtium and Cesaricm and other good sires are due at the Barrle farm early In the year from other mares bought at the same sale.
