April 16. — On the concluding day of the Ni wmaiket Craven meeting, the principal race of the day. the Craven Stakes, a sweepstakes for three-year-olds over the Rowley Mile with oOO sovereigns added, was won by F. Alexanders bay-colt. Howick. by Fietermaritzhurg — Abbots Annie, with King Edwards chestnut colt. Royal Escort, by Diamond Jubilee — Ambleside, second and the German colt. Gutfreund. by Galtee More — Galopin Lasi-. third. Mr. Belmonts Bay Tree was one of the six unplaced. The Flying Handicap of 200 sovereigns for three-year olds and over at five furlougs. was won by II. P. Whitneys three year-old chestnut gelding. Sea Cliff, by Clifford— Ficsole. with Lord Westhurys chestnut filly. Grouse Fly. by Sainfoin- Kustcnji . second. James R. Keem s Helmet was one of the fifteen starters and ran unplaced. The handicap of 300 sovereigns at seven furlongs for three-year-olds fell to II. J. Kings bay gelding. Humorist, by The Wag — Vitula. Mr. Keenes chest nut colt. Esperanto, by Disguise — Anomaly, was second and J. W. Larnachs hay colt. Pinshead. bv MInstead — Pincushion, was third. Nineteen started.
