THE LAST DAY AT OAKLAND. TODAYS RACING BRINGS A BRILLIANT RECORD OF GOOD SPORT TO AN END. Duke of Milan Wins at Last — Import Defeats Bogzs and Husky — Horses Sell Cheaply at Auction. San Francisco. Cal.. April 16. — There was no parading of stake horses on this the next to the last day of unrestricted racing at Oakland. Nevertheless, a more strenuous afternoon of the glorious sport lias never been seen hereabouts. The fields were numerically strong, horses evenly matched, competition keen, betting fast and furious and at tendance immense. Colonel Applegate was spared the humiliation of seeing Births sudden rejuvenation in the opener. Everything pointed to Galvescas easy success in the second race. Duke of Milan upset a long and patiently manipulated coup on Aunt Kit when he beat the Hawke filly home in the third. Fulford legitimately annexed the fourth. Oesa. which had been badly beaten in his preceding race, defeated a better class of horses with ten pounds more weight up ami in two seconds faster time hi the fifth, and Import earned a game victory over Boggs an I Husky in the last and best race of the day. W. Mclntyre rode the most winners, two. Tapliu was placid the oftenest. Favorites made good in the first, second and fourth races, a g n d record under the circumstances. W. OB.
