MONCREIF PARK ATTRACTS. JACKSONVILLE PEOPLE LIKE THE RACING AND TURN OUT FAITHFULLY. Sally Preston Defeats Halifax — Roseboro Almost Beaten by Carelessness — Florida Senate 9 Kills Anti-Racine Bills. ♦ Jacksonville, Fla.. April Hi. — The Jacksonville people ale taking advantage of the closing days of ♦ lie meeting to witness the races and another large crowd turned out at Monercif Iark this afternoon. There was nothing attractive to the program, ordinary fields being named to start in all but the third race, which was a condition dash at six and a half furlongs. There were some good sprinters in this race and incidentally it proved the only race during the afternoon winch was won by a favorite, sally 1reston. at odds-on. leading her opponents Jfroni end to end aid winning with speed in reserve. Tlie highweight lace, which was ruu as the sixth, furnished the closest finish of the day. Roseboro and Malediction passing the winning mark necks apart. Despite the small margin that separated the two. UoselKiro was an easy winner. Burton, in his attempt to draw a fine finish, all but threw the race ■way. He was easing his mount up at the end and did not see Malediction, which finished with a great rush and was gaining on the leader at every stride. The breeders purse went to Grace George, which won in a canter after racing under slight restraint to the stietch turn. The association now lias a half dozen horses for the breeding bureau and they will work in conjunction with the Tampa association in placing the stallions throughout the state. The ■MM that have won these purses will be disposed of and the money spent in purchasing stallions to take their places. The liest piece of news that the horsemen have I card in some time was that two of the anti-racing bills which were introduced in th» senate at Taila liassee wore reported unfavorably, which means that they have been killed by the committee to which 1 hev were referred. Tlwe horses which J. S. Smith disposed of yester liny were again placed in good standing by Judge Murphy. They include among others the Ethellior* colt. Select II.. which was purchased by II. lie nrren. Jr.. at the sale which was held in the paddock. David Dunlop left for his home in Virginia this morning His horses leave tomorrow night for Baltimore. James Milton has accepted the position of starter at the Columbia. S. .. meeting. In the event of a meeting being given at Jamestown he will probably do the starting there.
