SANTA ANITA RACING NEARLY OVER. Old Timers Defeat a Blow to His Followers — Schreiber Horses Go to New York. Los Angeles, tal.. April 16. —Jockey Shilling was allowed to accept outside mounts today nnd has b en thoroughly restored to good standing. He will ride on the Canadian circuit next summer. The Benny Jacobs case will be reopened tomorrow and it is generally felt that he will be thoroughly restored to good standing. A decision wili be handed down tomorrow night. The largest crowd that has visited the track in many days was present today, which proves i-on- lusivoly that racing is more popular here than ever before. The defeat of Old Timer in the third race, at seven furlongs, today was a bitter blow to the public and talent alike. Off none too well he quickly ran into a contending position and looked to have a splendid winning chance when turning for home, but here Black Mate moved up fast and. overhauling him when an eighth out. easily shook him off in the •losing strides. Old Timer was best of the others, easily heating Dennis Stafford for second place. The rest of the card was very commonplace, the fields being unwieldy in almost all instances. Krt Cole leaves for New York Sunday night and Seymour Beutler for Baltimore Monday night. Joe James has concluded to race on the British Columbia circuit this summer. He will ship Kedondo and the two-year-old. Abihu. along with the Wheat-croft lot. Mr. James acquired Abihu a few days Hgo for a comparatively small sum. Herman Brandt will ship the Schreiber and Shaw borgea in ids charge direct to Shoepshead Bay tomorrow. Jack Atkiu will be among the number. The stable of Jim McManus will be sent to Louis-ilh- tomorrow.
