ENGLANDS GREATEST WEEK OF RACING. The Epsom Derby. Epsom Oaks and Coronation Cup to Be Decided Within Four Days. The Epsom Summer Meeting begins today. To Englishmen it is the greatest racing reunion of eaeli year, because in its course the Derby and Oaks are .leeided. They are the ehicf features, but there are others of interest and importanee. Today the Woodcotc Stakes of 1 .MM sovereigns, for two-year olds, at three quarters or a mile, is the most valuable event up for decision. C. Can oils Troubled Waters and Washoe. August Relmonls Hasty Pudding and Astieot II. and four of Mr. Whitney"s ■re among the eligible-. The Derby will kg run tomorrow. Sir Martin and Esperanto will represent the United States. American hopes center in Sir Martin and little notice is taken of Esperanto, although it may be Ilia I he is more than ordinary. American horses have not Infrequently started in the Derby, and one. Iroipiois. won it. In the case of Sir Martin there is this difference. His is the only case on record of the heal two-year-old of his year iu American raeiag being sent abroad to take part in the most fanwiUI race of the world for three-year-olds. Our best two year-elds of last year were very good, indeed, and Sir Martin was. by virtue of great performances, in-eontestilily our Pest two year-old colt. Although bv no means conclusive, his showing in the Derby will in some measure be a test of the relative merits of English ami American thoroughbreds. Thursdays main features will lie the roval ban dicap of 1.000 sovereigns, for three-year-olds ai.d over, at three -quarters of a mile: the Great Surrey Foal Stakes of l.NH sovereigns, for t wo-year-olds, al Uve-eighths. and the Coronation Cup of 1.20O Sovereigns, for three year-olds and over, at a mil. anil a Hit. Americans are not represented in the Great Surrey, but Norman III., l.air Play. Ballot. Colin and Esperanto are in the Coronation "up. Tin Royal Handicap closed iu April and secured America* entries, but the weights wire not published until May IS. and have not arrived. The Oaks will be run Friday afternoon. Richard inkers Alabama and Mr. Keenes Wedding Bells and Suffragette are the only American fillies at .ill likely to start, and if Alabama goes to the post she may win. .Mr. Keenes fillies have worked well, but are not deemed iu the first flight over there. The other big event of the day is the Acorn Stakes of twenty sovereigns each, with 1.000 sovereigns added, for two-year-olds, at live eight lis of a mile. Mr. lVlmoiits Ballot Bred, by Meddler— Beldame. Mr. Keenes Infatuation, by Kingston — Kiiiiavvav-Girl. and Coronal, by Voter — Rosegarlaml. and H. P. Whitneys Artless and two unnamed ones by Irish Lad are in this. The meeting comes to ah end Friday.
