TROUBLE BREWS AT SALT LAKE. Owners of Fair Grounds Track Cancel Lease of the Utah Jockey Club. Salt Lake City. Ctah. June 15.— J. G. McDonald. president of the Itah State Fair Association, which controls the Fair Grounds track in this city, has notified W. II. ileason and W. W. Finn, treasurer and manager of the Itah Jockey Club, that the lease which the Jockey club has of the Fair .rounds will be terminated June 25. The club had a two-years lease, subject to revocation during the first thirty days by the fair association in the event of mismanagement. The meeting at the Fair Grounds liegan May 22 and was to have run to and including July 7. President MePouald says there will be no fall meeting at the Fair Grounds. • Mr. McDonalds action was taken as the result of pressure of public feeling against various happenings at the track, augmented by the fact that W. W. Finn, on Saturday night last, engaged in a fight on a prominent business street in the city with a local newspaper man. The latter. Tim Rooney. is well known in the iiiterniountaiu region and public feeling as a retail of the encounter ran high against the track management. Rooney had been criticising the manner in which the racing has been conducted. A w~arrant will lie iswued for the arrest of Finn. Rooney was struck twice in the face and kicked in the abdomen. A week ago a resolution was iiiC-oduced in the Ciiv Council to prohibit betting on the races, but no further action was taken. It is lielleved that todays action will bring this to the fore at the next regular session. The attendance at the track has fallen off as a result of the unwelcome happenings.
