HAMILTON RECORD BROKEN. PLAUDM0RE REDUCES MILE MARK BELOW 1:40 FOR FIRST TIME AT COURSE. Runs Distance in 1:39.; — Rose Queen Equals Track Record for Six Furlongs in Winning Race in Which She Finishes Pulling Up, Hamilton. Ont.. June 29. — The Barton Steeplechase was the principal feature of the program offered patrons of the Hsssllloa Jockev Crab this afternoon. It brought out a field of smart lumpers. Braggadocio and Bilberry were added to the race, while several of those ea riled were withdrawn. The contest was good until the last quarter mile, when Waterway drew away into a long lead to win as he pleased. The tabled history of the Barton Steeplechase Is as follows: Year. Winner. A. Wt. Plaudmore. in winning the second race, established a new track record for a mile by running the distance in 1:391. the previous mark being 1:40. made by Gridiron with ninety two pounds up. In winning the fifth. Rose Jiic. n ran lie six furlongs, pulled up. in 1:121. which equaled the track record. Rose Queen is probably as fast a Sprinter as ever ra.-ed In Canada. .She is apparently at her beat just now and had there been anything in todays race to carry her aloug she would undoubtedly have run the tlis tanee in less than 1:12. Three favorites won. the successful choices lielng Short Order. Waterway and Ri s« Queen. Ihe best contest of the afternoon came with the miming of the closing race, in which Cruche dOr and Belle Scott fought It out through the stretih. with the former first at the end by a neck. Several stables are already making preparations to leave for Fort Erie. P. T. Chinn will send his big string down Friday afternoon or Saturday morning. Fred Fox. J. Maloaey and Mode Nicdl will leave Friday, wblle J. Dyinent and W. Shields will go Saturday morning. 11e division of the Chinn stable that has been rosiing up at Woodbine will also be sent v hi F*m*T ~ Erie. Jockey Treubel. xvho suffered a broken leg as a result of a fall while riding at Los Angeles last winter, is at Toronto galloping horses, and expects to soon tie in condition again. Treubel was called to Toronto from Montreal during the Blue Bonnet* meeting by the death of his daughter. Joseph E. Seagrams Seismic arrived this after noon from Ids owners farm at Waterloo. He Is carded as a starter in the Dominion Plate tomorrow. Hugh Penny received a wire from Dion Kerr this morning asking on what terms he would dispose of the contract he holds on jockey .1. Reid. Kerr is supposed to be acting for David Dunlop in the mat-ter. Seymour Bentler. who is here in charge of the Pinkerton forces, arrested a ticket snatcher yesterday, who is an old timer at the trick. Thisis the first arrest at the meeting. The Canadian circuit this year has been particularly free from these gentry.
