FRENCH YEARLINGS BRING HIGH PRICES. At the recent French sale of yearlings by C.ouvern-ant. Matchbox. Tokio and Con Amore from the Napa jcdlcr Stud of A. Baltazzi. the twenty youngsters sold produced an average of ,500. and a total of $.50.121. A colt out of Thriftless fell to Captain Horval for .S00. after some smart bidding. Then came the tillics out of Wilful and Childs Dane.-, secured by Bjiioii i. Springer respectively for 66.866 and .oo. while St.ooo was given for the filly out of Maigit. by Mr. Mautner van Markhof. A bargain was obtained by Mr. N. von Szenierc. who gave ,000 for the filly by Goilvernant. out of Miss Jeannie. Some new buyers were ill the ni.nkei. notably Count Paul Kstirbazy. anxious to continue t lit- family tradition of his house, ami fount Beren-tohi. the Austin Hungarian ambassador to BsjasBm, both of whom arc intending to form studs and racing staldes.
