KING COBALT SPREADS A FOOT. New York. June 29. — King Cobalt, the sprinter that went to Canada last week to fill a stake engagement at Hamilton, will be brought back to New York next week. Grant Hugh Browne sent the black ssa of Cesarion away in order to convince the Canadians that lie was a high-class sprinter. His end was accomplished when King Cobalt defeated Red River, the kingpin of the Canadian sprinting division, in the opening race of the Hamilton meeting. Mr. Browne took some pride in showing at Hamilton that King Oshsjlt was a good horse, because the son of Cesarion raced poorly in Canada last fall and the northerners set him down as a "mutt." But it is by no means assured that King Oooalt will lie able to fill an Important engagement at Hamilton next Saturday. He spread a f.xit in the race in which he met Red River and came nut of it quite lame. If he has to pass up his date next Saturday King Cobalt will come home and get a rest. He has demonstrated that he is us good a sprinter as a metropolitan stable cau send to the post, and there will be plenty of good racing hereabouts in the fall for a horse of his class.
