KEENE UNCOVERS CRACK TWO-YEAR-OLD. New York. July 10. The Futurity winner of 1009 was probably uncovered at the Slieepsliead Bay training track this morning. Grasmere, a chestnut colt by Meddler, out of Botha II.. owned by James It. Keene, is tho youngster referred to. His trial, coupled with the work lie has been doing all season, -was so remarkable, that astute track watchers believe that lie is likely to win the greatest American two-year-old race. They assert that Sweep cannot lie compared with the Meddler colt. Even Waldo, the game colt owned by C. L. Harrison, has not shown such form as did Grasmere this morning. And todays work-out is not the flash in the pan of a brilliant speed trial, but the culmination of Howes careful work. It was the climax of a course of training that has gone on since last fall, when the Meddler colt showed in a brilliant eighth dash that be really could run fast. Grasmeres trial today was with blinkers, and with jMarsliall. the star exercise lad of the Keene establishment, iu the saddle. This is how lie ran: 23, IAl. 471, 1:00?.. and pulled up the six furlongs in 1:15. After the Grasmere trial, trainer Bowe gave Sweep a work-out and it was as. unsatisfactory as the recent one when Affliction was pulled to him. Todays trial shows he has not improved since then. Here are the fractional: 1MJ. Ml, 4S. 1:012, 1:15B, driving.
