EYE WHITE TAKES STAKES W. H. FIZERS YANKEE GELDING BEATS GOOD BAND OF JUVENILES. Meadow, Recent Arrival from Texas, Equals Track Record for Mile and Sixteenth at Fort Erie-Derby Winner, Piute, Meets with Mishap. Buffalo. N. Y., July 10. W. II. Flzer furnished the winner in the Niagara Stakes, todays featuru race at Fort Erie. His Yankee colt. Eye White, beat a band of the best two-year-olds that have started on the Canadian circuit this summer. He was ridden by Musgrave. came from behind in the stretch and, closing with a great burst of speed, won going away. Galvesca. an added starter, was second. Turf Star third aud Joe Morris, whose chances were well favored, was beaten off. Eye Whites victory stamps him as a colt above the average. Musgrave rode a patient race, being content to allow Galvesca to force a fast pace the first half inlle. When called on. Eye White responded courageously and he finished in a resolute maimer. Joe Morris looked drawn and tucked going to the post. He ran for the first time in blinkers and this may have had something to do with his poor showing. The card was probably the best that has been offered on the circuit to date and it brought out the full quota of Saturday half holiday race-goers, the attendance almost equaling that of Derby day. The history of the Niagara Stakes is shown In the table below: Year. Winner. Wt. Jockey. Val. Time. 1007 Grande Dame ...115 I. Roland, .,150 1:0 tg mas Marse Abe .. 123 V. After running in Close quarters for four furlongs he .squeezed through along the rail, dashed into a commanding lead, and won "under restraint at the end in 1:45. which equals the track record for the distance. All Red was the rumier-up and the Derby winner. Iiuto, was beaten off. The latter grablted himself in the race. The race which followed the stake, a handicap at a mile and an eighth, went to Old Honesty, a llrst-tinie starter here, in a manner that left no room for doubt that lie ranks with the best handicap horses In this section., Speculatively. Creel ruled an overwhelming choice. but tlieXitoiiia delegation remained loyal i? Uil Honesty and profited handsomely. The horse was superbly handled by iMusgrave. who patiently waited on the speedy pace forced by Green- Seal until three-quarters had been covered, and then urged Old Honesty to the front. During the middle furlong of the stretch he had to call on Old Honesty sharply to dispose of Green Seal, but ultimately drew clear In the last seventy 3"ards. Tourenne. coming with a rush, wore down Creel for third place. In the second race. Tommy Burns, who had the mount on The Thorn, sustained a broken collarbone. Crowding was responsible for The Thorn falling on the first turn. At a sale of horses iu the paddock before racing began, all the horses of WHHanf Walker were offered, but the only bona tide sales made were Henry O.. which went to 4- G. Henderson for 25; Celcres. to James Johnson for 1909.sh5; Wuerzburger. to S. Beatty. for 5, and Gemmell, to A. L. Kirby, for ,000. Stanley Fay and Bellwether were bought In by the owner, G. C.
