DENIES INFLUENCING JOCKEY SHILLING. Lexington. Ky., July 24. Edwin C. Buff, agent for that division of the St. James Stable that is now racing at Fort Erie, writes that Irving H. Wheatcroft will, if not in person, through his representative, enter a denial before the Kentucky State Hacing Commission at its meeting here September S. to the charge of It. L. Thomas that jockey Shilliug ieft his employ because of importunities on the part of persons identified with the St. James Stable. "The St. James Stable had nothing whatever to do with Shilling leaving Thomas," writes Uuff. "Thomas and his connections alone are to blame for the jockeys action. This will be clearly shown when the case conies up for review by the racing commission. The records of Mr. Wheatcroft and his employes in the management of the St. James Stable will bear the minutest scrutiny. The horses in this stable have been consistent in their performances and the owner has been equally so in his dealings with racing men. The St. James Stable has as clean a record as has any other racing aggregation on the American turf."
