NOTES OF THE TURF, The American jockey, F. ONeill, rode three winners in one day inFrance recently. Mars Cassidys starting is declared to lie more uniformly good this season than ever. Tin; two-year-old bay colt by Star Ruby Peg AVotlington has been named Star Actor. Notice has reached the registry office of the Jockev Club of the death oC the 1109 foal of Nineveh, by Kthelbert. Frank Clarke, the superintendent of the Sheeps-head Bay course, is to be married to Mrs. Eleanor Leigh. Cymbal is now jointly owned bv Colonel W. E. Ap-plegate and his trainer,. J. J. Flannigan. The horse will mn in the Applegatc name and colors. It is said that Slgnoriuetta, winner of the Epsom Derby of 1908, will probably be retired to the stud by her Italian owner without ever again racing. The Jockey Club has issued warning to owners not to harbor the apprentice riders. A. Martin and A. Schuttinger, who left the employ of James Itobert-son and James McLaughlin, respectively. Jockey C. H. Shilling, whose jumping of his contract with U. L. Thomas prevents him from riding on recognized tracks ,is riding at the mixed meetiugs in western Canada. The fast time made at Yonkers Thursday was largely due to a high northeast wind which caught the runners full on the back at the head of the front stretch and blew them briskly along to the tlnlnh over the slowest and cuppiest part of the course, a circumstance followers of public form will do well to bear in mind. "The largest single commission of the Fort Erie meeting Is said to have gone on Charraian in the opening-race of last Thursdays program. It is said that ,000 w-as wagered as soon as the prices went up. The horse was backed from a high quotation of 20 to 1 down tQ 5 to 1. But for bad luck at the start, the plunge might have been successful.
