FITZ HERBERT IN FINE FETTLE. Saratoga. X. Y., August 10. Sam Hihlreth has not made up his mind about starting Fitz Herbert in the Saratoga Cup. but is getting the Kthelbert colt ready for that great race. . Fitz Herbert has done famously since Hihlreth brought him to Saratoga a few days after his victory over Olambala in the Lawrence Realization, in which he shouldered 122 pounds and galloped one mile and five furlongs In 2:45. the fastest time on record. Fitz Herbert was a bit leg weary after the Realization, because Olambala gave him the hardest race of his career. Hut the fine air and health-giving waters of Saratoga have revivified tlie Kthelbert colt. He has all his old-time dash and spurt. There is no telling how fasthe might run if Hlldretb gave him a chance. Hihlreth will not, however, permit Fitz Herbert to run as swiftly as he can in a trial gallop. He does not train horses that way. The best Fitz Herbert did for the Suburban was a mile and a furlong in 1:57, and the most severe work asked of him in .preparation for the Lawrence Realization was one mile and a quarter in 2:09. Hihlreth discovered long ago that it is unwise to ask too much of a horse in the mornings.
