ROUGH RIDING AT WINDSOR JOHN A. RUINED FOR RACING PURPOSES AS ONE RESULT YESTERDAY. Chief Race of Program Marred by Succession of Mishaps in Which All but Centre Shot, the Winner, Were Affected. Detroit, Mich., August 10. Todays feature race, a handicap at seven furlongs. In which some of the best racers in local training started, was marred to a considerable extent by rough riding and re- suited in injuries to John A. that will cause his retirement as n racer. AH nine starters in the Rice, excepting Centre Shot, tlie ultimate winner, were more or less subjected to frequent Interference. It began soon after the start. All Red was lucky to secure an opening at tlie stretch turn and. showing Improved form, finished fast enough under weak handling to take second place from tlie outsider. Howard Shean. The usual amount of interest was displayed In the jumping race, whicli furnished an upset in the. defeat of Class Leader by Harrington. Bell-the-Cat and Huddy. This trio dominated the running In the order named. Class Leader made a wretched showing and was never a prominent factor. Todays card, excepting the handicap, was ordinary and resulted in listless sport. Betting was brisk, however, and twenty-eight layers were again in Hue. The failures of Class Leader. John A.. Banives and Goleonda enabled them to partially recoup recent losses. .The inconsistent Gllvedear, which had been running poorly in recent races, unexpectedly won the closing race. King Avoudale, which former rider Hugh Penny acquired for a nominal price at Fort Erie recently, won at the first asking for his new owner when he led home a fair band of sprinters ill the sixth race. Ozana, the shortest price favorite of the afternoon, came away to a cantering victory in the fifth race: Lord Klam had ttf stand a hnid -drive to take the purse in the: race for Dominion-owned juveniles from Jolika. Jockey Kennedy was fined 5 by the starter for disobedience at the post and jockey Ganz was suspended for four days for a similar offense. .7. McLaughlin, Jr.. has transferred Suntire to A. W. Dayton, who will make a jumper ofi the horse. The veterinarians who examined John A. announced that the colt is practically ruined for further racing. purposes. Several horsemen, including J. W. Davis and A. Cv Bellew, had intended sending consignments to Delorimier Park, but after clearing the bonding of their horses found that they could not re-bond their racers into Canada.
