Lord Elam. away slowly, was forced to go wide for the first three furlongs, but moved up steadily in the stretch and outstayed Jolika in the closing strides. Jolikn, away fast, showed the most speed and raced the early contenders Into defeat, but tired slightly near the end. Charniian was prominent all the way, but had to be hard ridden to outstay Louis Reil for third place. Louis Reil closed a big gap in the last quarter and would have been third In a few more strides. "ell-the-Cat moved into second place after going over the sixth jump and held the others safe. Huddy shewed much improvement and was prominent for the entire trip. Class Leader was kept a distant trailer throughout and can do better. Manzano was never prominent. Bilberry ran out at the ninth jump. All Red. forced back at the start, had a rough trip, hut came fast in the stretch when having a clear course. Howard Shcan gained steadily in the last quarter and got up in the last few strides for third place. Hasty Agnes tired badly in the last furlong after being prominent for live furlongs. lien Double was i sufferer from interference and tired in the last quarter. Charlie Eastman was knocked out of any chance after going rive furlongs. Ada Meade fell lame in the last quarter. John A. was a close contender when he was cut down in the stretch. Laveno stood the tinal drive gamely aud held Judge Walton safe in the stretch. The latter ran in much improved form. Fearnauglit II. had to overcome much interference and ran a good race. Simonette is showing steady improvement. Banives, away in a tangle, ran far below his best form. Merman was almost thrown several times by being crowded. The winner was entered for 1909.sh00; no bid. Procla was in forward contention: from the start, but tired in the last furlong. Dimvegan went wide in tlie stretch. Grenesque showed speed, but tired when hard pressed in the last furlong. Minor, knocked back soon after the start and going wide, came with a rush in the stretch and would bavc been second in another stride. Caltha went a fast five furlongs before tiring. Gerrymander showed speed and was In close quarters most of the trip. Oberon had a rough trip on the first two turns. Point Iice was taken back on the first turn and forced to go wide and, closing a big gap, might have Avon with a clear course. There was much humping all the way.
