GOSSIP FROM BLUE GRASS REGION. Lexington, Ky., August 2S. John H. Morris, who has under lease 310 acres of Woodburn Fann at Spring Station, left here this morning for New York to be present at the running of the Futurity. Mr. .Morris has on the farm some forty mares and foals, fifteen of them belonging to L. O. Appleby of New York, aud six the property of R. H. Mc-Carter Potter of the Pequest Stud In New Jersey. .Mr. Potters six mares all have sous of Knight of the Thistle ruuuing at their sides. The mares are Fair Fortune, Liebe, Constance, Miss Hanover Golden Rod and .Merrythought. Bunch is the only one or the Appleby marcs that has no foal. She has not had a foal since she dropped Arasee. The following have foals at foot by Mr. Applebys grand-looking stallion. Samson: Tardy, Quagmire, Lioness, Bristol, Juanita and Banana. Wild Thistle. My Fairv. Zeta and My Lady have foals by Blues. Silver Thistle and Mary Morris have foals by Charcot, a young son of the English stallion. Common, aud Spanish Match. Tills stallion is owned by Mr. Morris and he predicts a great future for him. Charcot goes back to the wonderful English producing mare, Paraffin, whose daughter, Footlight, produced so riclilv for the late Sir Daniel Cooper. Among the other mares ou the farm are Forelock dam of Ida .May, the grand old mitre, Kate Pelletier; Aconite and Ellerdie, belonging to Mr. Morris: Hope On aud Thanks, witli foals by Nasturtium, the property of .1. W. Baker of Texas; Evelyn J. with colt by Stalwart, belonging to D. C. Johnson of New York: South Sea and foal by Lissak, belonging to Captain George Wilder of this city, and Lovett and Mary Agnes dam of Louise S., the former with a filly bv Blues and the latter with a handsome colt by Knight of the Thistle, the property of John Welch of Spring Station. Mr. Welch was the breeder of Louise S. and it was for him that Walter Grater sold the filly to James E. GalTney during the Empire "Citv meeting. Mr. Morris is handling for Mr. Welch a yearling half-brother to Iuise S. that is regarded as" the handsomest son ever begotten by J. N. Camdens Mazagan. Mr. Welch also owns and has at the .Morris place probably the largest yearling in Kentucky this season. He Is a chestnut in color, with four white legs and a blaise face, by Garry Hermann, out of Marconi. He stands less than an inch under sixteen hands and will weigh considerably over 1.000 pounds. He is distinctly a Rossing-ton tvpe. Among the other yearlings on the place are a couple of racy-looking fillies by Broomstick, one out of Marshetta dam of Tom Dolau and the other out of Mariam. They belong to Wilder and Welch. Mr. .Morris began Wednesday the weaning of all the foals. The five yearlings, two colts and three fillies, all chestnuts in color, purchased by R. L. Thomas at the July sales and shipped back to Kentucky to run out at Catesbv Woodfords Raceland Farm near Paris, were shipped back to New York Thursday morning to lie broken and trained by Henry Me-Danlel at Gravesend. The five cost Mr. Thomas an aggregate of , 175 and are splendid-looking individuals. The largest and most handsome of them is the ,100 eolt by The Commoner, out of Rene. Before leaving for New York Thursday, trainer Charles Hughes made arrangements with CiilTord Hammond, superintendent of K. It. Bradleys Idle Hour Farm, to break and handle Henry M. Ziegiers seven yearlings until the end of the eastern racing season." when Hughes will return to Kentucky to take them in hand. Included in the list is the strikingly handsome half-brother to Barleythorpe. Uu is a chestnut colt by Adam out of Frederlca. and Hughes is enthusiastic over hint. The others are: Bay colt by Cesarion Grandma II., by Riley. Bay or brown colt by Garry Hermann Long Lost, by Kantaka. Bay colt by Blues Semitic, by Henry of Navarre. Brown colt by Handspring Bermuda" Lily, by Bermuda. Bay filly by Holstoin Gotham Belle, by Gotham. Brown filly by Stalwart Rossa, by Rousseau.
