RUNNING OF THE PARTRIDGE STAKES : In reducing the number of Its stakes this year tlie Coney Island Jockey Club has attached the names of those excised to overnight purses, to preserve their continuity of running, with a view to their presenting unbroken records when they shall have boon restored to their former dignity as closed stake races. Thus, for the lirst time since its first running in 1890, the Partridge Stakes is a purse race. In its first nmuing it fell to the subsequent American Derby winner, Strathmeath, perhaps the best horse that ever won. the event, although Rex, Harry Reed. One I Love, King Barleycorn.
