REDUCTION OF SEASON LOOKED FOR. San Francisco, Cal., August 30. "There is a confident feeling among local followers of the turf that there will be racing here this coining winter. Despite the delay of an ollicial announcement everything points to the fact that a meeting will be held under the system that prevails1 around New York this summer. The proposition is to keep the sport alive, even if it costs the association twenty or fifty thousand dollars," says the Chronicle. "It is not unlikely that the purses will be trimmed to some extent, although the stake events will be retained, in all probability. As the meeting will be somewhat in the nature of an experiment, the lumber of- days will be materially reduced from previous seasons. This change will be welcomed by all who have the best Interest of the sport at heart and would have a tendency to placate many people who have heretofore opposed racing. The California Jockey Club may be expected to give out some definite information in the near future."
