JOCKEY SANDY KILLED AT 0GDEN. San Francisco, Cal., September 13. The remains of jockey Tommy Sandy were brought to his home in Oakland today for interment. Sandy died from the effects of a fall from the horse Silver Grain in a race at Ogden last Thursday. He lingered in an unconscious condition at the Ogden Hospital for twenty-four hours after the accident before death ensued. The mishap occurred in this wise;. While making tbe first turn after the start, Eisenzapli, riding Dora Payne, attempted to cut in toward the rail. In doing so his mount was thrown to the ground and was run into by Silver Grain, which was coming with a rush from behind. Sandy was thrown heavily to the ground and was rolled upon by his mount. Jimmy Hanby and A. Almefer raised a subscription sufficient to forward the remains to his family in California. A procession of horsemen and joekevs with a band playing a funeral dirge, followed the body to the railroad station. Sandy was developed by Dr. II. E. Rowell. formerly trainer for T. II. Williams, to whom he remained under contract until last year. The boy possessed considerable ability as a rider wheii. at the heighth of his form, but had not ridden as well of late as before his suspension at Seattle last summer. He prospered under Dr. Howells management, but being generously inclined, died leaving behind . hitn little of what he made In prosperous days.
