AMERICAN INVASION A FAILURE. There is very little in the present campaign of American horses in England that can be viewed with satisfaction by the owners concerned or by the great mass of American admirers of racing. Such older celebrities as Colin, Dallot. Fair Play. Stamina. Priscilllan and Dinna Ken either could not be raced or if they could be brought to the post were rank failures when brought into competition with the English horses. Of all those taken abroad, only Mediant and Wedding Dells can be said to have raced up to their form in this country. Then the choicely-bred two-year-olds taken over seem to be unable to cope successfully with the English best of the year. Under such conditions the Americans have naturally made a sorry showing in the big stakes of the year and few of the big plums of the English turf have fallen their way. So far they have won but six races of the value of ?2,000 or more and of these Mediant won two. The six and their values arc: Wedding Dells, Forty-seventh New Dienuial Stakes at Ascot 1909.sh.17.". Perseus Stewards Handicap at Epsom 4.tili." Whisk Broom Prince of Wales Plate at York 4,4:55 Mediant Stewards Cup at Goodwood o,0.J5 Champion Sprinter Handicap at Hurst Park 2.075 Hillside All Aged Stakes at Ascot 2,:i00
