NOTES OF THE TURF. Indisposition accounts for jockey Pages absence from the saddle at Gravesend this week. Jockey V. Powers, who is under suspension in the east, is visiting his parents in northern New York. - Jockey Butwell, one of the most skillful riders in the east, can make a living off .the race track whenever be elects to forsake the saddle. Butwell was three years with a circus, and be is one of the most agile and graceful tumblers in the business. Butwell is also a clever boxer. For the first time since he came into the possession of Max Hirsch, Spooner ran without blinkers at Gravesend on Wednesday. The Peep o Day colt broke so smoothly and ran so kindly Hirsch will keep the rogues badge off of, him in future. Why Spooner was ever raced in a hood Hirsch does not know. He tried the experiment of running him without blinkers because the colt had schooled well for him without them, after having acted meanly whlle wearing them.
