GREAT ENTRIES TO SARATOGAS STAKES. When, without any preliminary flourish of trumpets, the Saratoga Association one day last summer gave notice of four rich stakes to close for entries, horsemen rejoiced exceedingly, not so much for the four races as for the confident assurance of tho continuance of eastern racing involved in the act. The four races were the United States Hotel Stakes and Grand Union Hotel Stakes of 1909.sh,000 each for two-year-olds of 1910. the Spinaway Stakes of ,000 for two-year-old fillies of 1910 and the Travers Stakes of ,000 for three-year-olds of 1911. These all closed for entries August 1! and owners were not slow iu responding in spirit akin to that which prompted the early offering of the events, the number of entries made beiug: Stake.
