i : He FiLLIES THAT MAY MEET IN THE ONE THOUSAND GUINEAS I . The One Thousand Guineas will lie run at Newmarket next Friday. It is for three-year-old lillies exclusively and, like the Two Thousand, is run over the Rowley Mile. It closed with ninety nominations, of which nineteen have been declared out and one is dead, leaving seventy now eligible to start. There is no added money, the value of the race being made up from the sweepstakes of 100 sovereigns each, half forfeit for non-starters. Winkipop won this event last year and its net value then was 3,250. There is this year a more than obvious chance that the One Thousand may be won by an American-bred lilly. In fact, on the basis of their running as two-year-olds, it may be said that the outcome of the race appears to be confined to II. P. Whitneys Hamburg Lady Frivolcs lilly, Lord Falmouths Alice. A. Belmonts Sandwich, Lord Derbys Hair Trigger II. and J. K. Joels Radiancy. Rut lillies are proverbially uncertain in spring racing and their form ot" one year frequently varies greatly from that of the year preceding. Lffst year the Lady Frivolcs filly was held to be the best of her age and sex in England and more than one turf writer advanced the opinion that she was probably the best two-year-old regardless of sex. She has wintered and grown splendidly, but has bad forelegs and is difficult to prepare. If she can be sent to the post entirely fit it is quite probable that she will be the favorite. She has started once this year and ran unplaced. Alice started but twice as a two-year-old and won both times. She is a charming lilly and highly regarded in England. Sandwich was a capital two-year-old and in one of her races defeated the Wiiitney crack. Borrow. Hair Trigger II. gave an excellent account of herself in racing and won important stake races. Radiancy also raced with distinction and landed one of the great stakes of the year for two-year-olds. Of those that may start the Isinglass Sceptre liily, Tullia, Singlet. Virgin Queen. Adena. Persephone, Blue Star. Spalato, Alster Cress, Mountain Lass, Monte Fiore, Flying Countess and Prefix did not win as two-year-olds, but several of them raced well in the bovt of company. In the winning division Sandwich took the Halnaker Plate at Goodwood, First Nursery Handicap at Newmarket and the Criterion Stakes at Newmarket, defeating Borrow. Prince San and Zorzal in the latter. Queen Til won the Kennett Plate at Newbury, Salisbury Maiden Plate at Salisbury and the Clewer Plate at Windsor and was placed in five other races. Hair Trigger II. was first in the Astley Stakes at Lvwes. Breeders Foal Stakes at Kempton Park and the Boscawen Stakes at Newmarket, defeating such cracks as Wrlnkler and Lvcaon in the latter race. Alice won the Rous Memorial Stakes at Newmarket, defeating Cyllins and Sandal", and the Bretbv Stakes at the same track. Castellino was winner of the First Spring Stakes at Newmarket. Great Surrey Foal Stakes at Epsom and the Royal Plate at Windsor. Radiancy won the rich Coventrv Stakes at Ascot, in which Pietri. Zorzal and Phryxus ran unplaced. Knockfeerna won the Great Lancashire Breeders Produce Stakes at Liverpool and the Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket. Sospel won the Hyde Park Plate at Epsom. Joie de Vivre took the Acorn Stakes at Eiisoni. Lindoiya won the Rous Memorial Stakes at Goodwood. The Hamburg Lady Frivolcs lilly won the Fitzwilliain Stakes at Newmarket, with Alster Cress second and St. Anton third: the Wilbraham Plate at Newmarket, the Mersev Stakes at Liverpool, with Radiancy second, and was beaten a half length by St. Nat at Ascot in the Fiftv-third Ascot Biennial Stakes, with Prince Palatine third and Monte Fiore. Lycaon. Lindoiva and other good" oues unplaced. In the racing of this year Tullia won the Canwick Maiden Slakes at the Liveriiool Spring meeting and Monte Fiore was first in the Quurudou Handicap at Derby. Flying Countess was a good second to St. Anton in the Column Produce Stakes at the Newmarket Craven meeting, in which Spalato was unplaced. Ladv Frivolcs filly and Sandwich ran unplaced in their only start, but ran well. None of the other probabilities bas started unless within the last week.
