IMPROVEMENTS FOR BUTTE TRACK. Butte, Mont.. April 24. The work of putting the racing plant of the Butte Jockey Club in summer condition has been started and the course will, from now until the opening of the races late in July, bo one of the busy places in Butte. Employment will be given to a good sized force of men from time to time, as there are building and painting to be done nd other forms of "house cleaning" proposed. Even a greater effort than ever will be made to make the track attractive in the way of landscape gardening. It is expected that with the assistance of Professor Atkinson of the agricultural college the center field can bo made this year to produce an unbroken surface of waving grain. Samples of the soil have boon taken aud Professor Atkinson will lend his assistance by way of advice and instruction in the planting of the proper crops at the proier time. Among the improvements contemplated this season is the painting of the grandstand, a task necessitating a considerable outlay of money, but the work, it is felt by the association, is necessary and it will be started as soon as practicable. The color will be a sort of compromise between the present green and blue, a tint that is supposed to be lasting as well as attractive in appearance. It is planned to thoroughly repair the roofs of all the stables. It is also planned to shingle anew the roof of the old betting ring, which will be used for the si me purixise this summer.
