TRAINING NEWSWtOM LEXINGTON. Lexington. Ky.. April 24. The Kentucky Association track was fast this morning and? gallops were numerous, though no sensational time was recorded. The majority of the horses that were out were merely tightening up for trials tomorrow. The best move of the morning was ithree-qiiarters in 1:142 by the Phoenix Hotel Handicap candidate. Countless, in the string of J. W. May. He ran the lirst quarter in 23;. the half in 4S; and finished strong. Some other good moves at three-quarters were: Roberta. 1:15: Ilandzaretta. 1:15J. and Prince Gal, 1:15. The fastest mile was 1:45 bv Beach Sand and Bobbv Boyer. from the stable of E. R. Bradley. Hal Headleys Jabot, in the string of T. P.. Hayes, worked a mile in 1:155. Homer Selbys Sister Florence went a half mile in 19. anil Hint was the fastest for any two-year-old. Milton B. worked three-eighths in 35; and Irishtowu a half in DO. Governor Gray breezed live-eighths in 1:00; lie looks good. Jack Baker had all of his charges out, as did J. O. Keene and W. J. Young. Secretary Shelley returned from Louisville this morning. He says that about 100 horses -will come over from the Falls City Wednesdav. T. C. .McDowell has arranged with W. O. Joplin for the services of jockey T. Koerucr during the local meeting. Upon hearing that W. G. Yanke had informed superintendent Ross of the Kentucky Association track that Round the World will come here to race, Capt. J. T. Williams, developer of Governor Grav, winner ot the recent Derby at Jacksonville, issued the following challenge to the owner of the llllv that won the Juarez Derby and is now a favorite for the Kentucky Derby: "To W. G. Vanke: Since Round the World and Governor Gray have never met in a contest for speed and endurance on the turf, and since, there Is more than unusual concern witli the patrons of racing as to which is the faster and gamer runner, I propose to you that we match them for .,000 a side, to run at Lexington on Saturdav. April 20, or Monday. .May 1, at one mile or over, the distance to be fixed by you. the track to be dry, and the sum added by the Kentucky Association to be given to the charitable institutions of Lexington. 1 will post with the racing secretary of the Kentuckv Association :?500 as a forfeit as soon as I hear of vour acceptance, and I will not expect vou to make :i decision until the weights for the Phoenix Hotel Ilan-cap.. in which I understand you expect to start Round the World, are posted."
