HORSES GATHERING AT SALT LAKE. Salt Lake City, Utah, April 24. Horsemen have begun an invasion of the inter-mountain racing circuit for the season of 1911. Close to 150 horses have already reached Utah to race on the Lagoon course, which is to be opened Memorial Day. A special train over the Western Pacific brought here twenty-three carloads of horses from Oakland, Cal. Simultaneously another string reached Ogden from Juarez. All come to run at the Lagoon meeting and some of them will previously race at Ogden. F. A. Darouxs string arrived at Ogden in charge of Ben Levy and includes Round and Round, Dennis Stafford. Thomas Calhoun, Good Ship and Sevcrus. J. II. Keene was in charge of the Oakland special. He has in charge a big string of horses for J. N. Camden. Others in the consignment are as follows: Ray Egau, live, including Pay Streak: Charles Bogan. three, including Novgorod; P. E. Smith, live, including .Marburg: J. Tigue, five, including Lucille JUanlcy and Blacksheep; Thompson and Bernhardt, five, including Miles, Coppertown and Flora Riley; J. M. Cranker, three, including KaiserliofT; William M. Cain, nine, including Metropolitan; A. J. Jackson, four, including Fern L. and Binocular; W. Durker. live, including Electrowan and Likely Dieudoune; J. M. Dixon, three, including Busy Man; Ontario Oregon Stable, seven, including On Parole; Frank Otis, two. including Jim Caflerata: J. M. Crane, nine, including J. II. Shcchan and Belmerc; H. A. Cotton, three, includiug Abolla and Lisaro: W. Gabriel, seven, including Pawhuska; Allen and Ilensley, four, including Terns Trick; F. Wall-hauser, two. including Edwin T. Fryer and Livius; Booker and Weber, two, including Anna May; T. II. Stevens, seven, including Azo. Willi the special were the following jockeys: Lindhnrst, Kederis, Gilbert, Coburn, .Murphy and Rowan. About forty stalls are ready for occupancy at Lagoon and the rest arc going in like magic. In three weeks the Iigoon stables will be ready for the racers, but until then the animals will be taken care of at the Utah State Fair Grounds and at Ogden. W. Short, who trains for F. A. Daroux, is In a serious condition as the result of having been hit over the head with a piece of pipe by C. P. Dye, caretaker at the Ogden track, who interfered in a dispute between Mr. Short and jockey Bevan, his contract rider.
