CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF. Jockey C. Falrbrotlier has signed a contract to ride for W. It. Coe next season. There are now 250 horses at Tijuana in anticipation of the opening of the meeting on November 11. The recent Reno meeting was conducted at a profit of about ,000, as against a loss of ,500 in connection with the summer meeting. Registrar William H. Rowe of the Jockey Club says that the foal registration at this time indicates that it will show some increase over that of last year. Henry Zeigler, a veteran turfman of Cincinnati, is at Iimlico with congressman Rhinock, and enjoying the racing. Mr. Zeigler, who has owned many noted race horses in other days, including the great Hermis, is seriously considering re-entering the sport with another stable, and is looking about for a few good horses to race next year. After Short Grass had finished last in the National Handicap at Laurel Tuesday, it was reported that he hud gone lame. Horsemen who saw the Herz star taken from the van at Iimlico reported that there was nothing, whatever wrong with the horse, and Emil Herz, his owner, said that he would be racing at the Iimlico meeting. Jockey J. Loftus will be seen in the saddle at Pimlico and lie promises to make 115 pounds for any mounts he may obtain. His engagements are being looked after by Ed Hodgson. After the season closes at Iimlico, Loftus will leave for Charleston, S. C. where lie will remain during the winter with the stable of A. K. Macomber, by whom lie lias been engaged to ride heavyweight during the racing season of 1917.
