Thirty subscriptions were stipulated for in the eases of the classic substitutes, and it is decidedly satisfactory that the number has been exceeded in each instance, there lieing thirry-elght nominations for the Derby and thirty-four for the fillies race. All the best colts of last year, with the exeeption of Nortli Star III., which has gone ahroail". have bet n nominated for the principal classic contest. ami with Diadem and Molly Desmoid to represent the fillies, almost the full strength of the three-year old department is available for the purposes • f the great test arranged for May ."I.
