TRAINERS BEGIN WORK AT WOODBINE. Toronto. Out., April IS.— The track at Woodbine is at present in good order, with a capital bottom, and in better condition than for .several seasons at this time of the year. While the weather Tuesday morning was raw and uncomfortable, many of the horses in training there were given stiff gallops. The Thorncliffo platers Britannia and Impress, went a half mile in 54%. The former does not appear to have lost any of tile speed which marked her racing last year. The two-year-olds Pleasure Bent, Joffre and Loxon were sent a quarter on the backstretch in 28%. Graphic and Faster Lily, also from the same stable, both look well advanced in their preparation and worked a half in 88%. Graphic has improved much in looks and always had the chief lequisite for winning race* — speed. King Hamburg did his half in M%. The Beardmoro platers King Dove and Ladder of Light, were given useful work, galloping along the last half at abeat a two-minute rate. Horses from the strings of trainers Nixon, Hagan and Odes were only galloped. Astrologer and Tar Bttish. trained by Albert Ashbridge. went a half in 57. The Giddings stable, about eleven head strong. will come in from Oakville next week. On account of the long ami severe winter they ilid little work at home. lb-arts of Oak has been used as a stallion, but will again lie in training this season. The stables af William Walker, M. J. Daly and Peter Sheridan are expected here today from Maryland. Barney Cole came down from Hamilton yesterday with a band of horses that he wintered on the mountain top.
