TIPPITY WITCHET SCORES EASILY Takes the Trenton Soiling Stakes at Havre de Grace "Winning in a Canter. Havre de Grace, Md., September 13. The Brighton Stables Tippity Witchet, which won his first race of the year at Havre de Grace last spring, in the colors of Harry Payne Whitney, was winner of the Trenton Selling Stakes here- this afternoon. There were but six starters and the Broomstick colt was a strong public choice. Tippity Witchet began in front, but was quickly joined by George W. Avery and the pair raced to the upper turn together, with the latter leading, where Jule joined in the battle. Right there Rowan wa forced to take his mount back and for a second ii seemed the favorite was beaten, but on the turn foi home lie came again and passed George W. Avery without any trouble, winning in a canter. George W. Avery was just as easily second. A petition signed by every horseman on the track, was presented to Manager Edward Burke at Havre de Grace, authorizing him to deduct one per cent from all the purses, as a donation to the tobacco fund for the soldiers at the front. This will apply to all of the meetings in Maryland, which means that a substantial sum will be obtained for the purpose. William McDaniel, who has the Thomcliffe Stable horses here, lias received an ofTcr for three of his horses, Fountain Fay. King Hamburg and Easter Lily, and will probably dispose of them before the meeting conies to a close. S. A. CLOPTONS BIG STABLE. S. A. Clopton has twenty-one horses in training for J. O. Talbott, and among those that he recently took up were Slumber II., Prince Henry, Clean Up, Culture, Scotch Kiss and Greentree. Slumber II. is up to a race and the others will all be ready for the Laurel meeting. Among the arrivals ;were B. B. Rice and U. S. Wisliard from St. Louis, and W. T. Trencolm from Montreal. Eugene Lutz got in from Canada this morning with his apprentice Erickson. O. E. Pons has disposed of the two-year-old Judge Wright II. to C. E. Holland. Before shipping from Windsor, the colt worked five-eighths in 1:01. The yearlings owned by- the Pons estate will be disposed by auction at Lexington October 12. Pullux was crowded against the fence and his off hind leg was badly bruised. Haynes reported that he thought his mount struck one of the fence posts. Pullux will probably be an absentee during the remainder of the meeting. A. J. Wilson, track builder and recently track superintendent at Laurel, is in the Maryland General Hospital in a critical condition. He became ill about a year ago, the disease developing into neuritis, causing the loss of one of his legs. About two weeks ago lie fell and shattered his good leg and it is believed he will have to have that leg amputated.
