PAPP SOON TO GET DESERVED REST After Filling Breeders Futurity Engagement Colt Will Be Retired for the Year. New York, September 13. Papps Futurity victory was particularly pleasing to his owner, former Congressman G. W. Loft, who desired to win this nice more than any other -when it became evident that his edit would be one of the chief contenders for the juvenile honors of the season. Mr. Loft lai every reason to feel gratified over the happy out- come of his venture into racing a year or so ago. Few newcomers on the turf have ever done so well as he, and the success already scored will unquestionably encourage him to extend the scone of his operations iu future years. Trainer Max Hirsch, who lias managed his stable so successfully, plans to race Papp only once more tills season. He will go td Kentucky this week with the colt, with the purpose of winning the Breeders Futurity, to be run at Lexington September 22. Papp will have to carry only 122 pounds in this race, which is less than lie lias been carrying so creditably: herq and at Saratoga. Trainer Hirsch has faith in Papps ability to win this race if he retains his present good form. The colt lias come through his recent exacting campaign in fine condition. He is carrying quite as much flesh right now as before his series of: hard races against the pick of his rivals for the juvenile championship. He has actually improved with racing, iu spite of the severe test to Which he has been put. PAPP TO WINTER AT. BELMONT PARK. After filling his Breeders Futurity engagement at Lexington, Papp will be shipped back here to go into winter quarters at Belmont Park and enjoy a well earned respite from racing. Cum Sail, another two-year-old that showed promising form before an accident necessitated his temporary retirement from racing at Saratoga, will be depended upon to carry the Loft colors in the important race for two-year-olds at Laurel and Pimlico, where trainer Hirsch is planning a fall campaign. Hirsch, who is a keen judge "of horses, "thinks well of Cum Sail. The fleet filly Julialeon will represent the stable in the more important races for mature horses on the Maryland circuit. Christopher J. Fitz Gerald, who is representing the Jpckey Club as steward at Havre de Grace, made a flying trip from that place to Syracuse Tuesday night, to Judge the class for thoroughbred yearlings in connection with the state fair now go4 ing on. He will resume his duties at Havre de Grace Thursday. The good colt Kashmir, which II. C. Hallenbeck purchased from W. C. Clancy for 15,000 at Saratoga last month, is being pointed by trainer Frank M. Taylor for some of the important races for juveniles to lie run at Laurel and Pimlico this fall. It is confidently expected that when the distances are lengthened out, this colt will show to better advantage titan he yet has.
