KEYSOES EASY DONCASTER ST. LEGER Irish Elegance Records Another Great Sprinting Peat Under High Weight. In the long history of the Doncaster St. Leger none of its winners triumphed with more consummate ease than did Lord Derbys big filly Keysoe on the tenth of last September. It was common knowledge that she had been coughing a short time prior to the race, and on the assumption that she would lie unfit to race to her fine Goodwood form she was at the long price of 100 to 8 in the betting. Buchnn was a hot favorite at 11 to 8, with Dominion second choice at 7 to 1. Keysoe took the lead at once, anil making all the running won in a canter by six lengths, with Dominion second anil two lengths in front of Buchnn. Tlie mile anil three-quarters and 132 yards of the race was covered in 3:0t. Her sire, Swynford, ran it in 3:04 when he won" the same race in 1910, but its fastest record is Black Jesters 3:02 in 1914. Keysoes victory was the first achieved in the St. Leger by a filly since the peerless Pretty Polly won it in 1901. Her success no doubt had considerable influence on the big prices paid for Swynford yearlings at the subsequent Doncaster sales. Of course the St. Leger was the star feature ot the Doncaster meeting, but the victory of the crack sprinter Irish Elegance in the Portland Plate at five-eighths of a mile was loudly acclaimed. Ho had up 142 pounds and easily defeated twelve other fast ones carrying much lighter imposts, the four-year-old Woorali, 102 pounds, and ridden by "Skeets" Martin, finishing second.
