JAMAICA RACES RUN IN THE RAIN My Laddie Wins Oceanus Handicap Long-Distance Raco to Rockport. NEW YORK. N. Y.. October 1. A cold rain in the earlv morning, and continuing during tlie day. was responsible for a diminished attendance and altered track conditions at Jamaica today despite which interesting racing was enjoyed. The Oceanus Handicap for two-year-olds, worth ,515 net tc the winner, was tlie feature of the afternoons sport and was won by My Laddie after setting a good pace all the way and just lasting to win by a head from David Ilarum. which closed in game fashion. Royal Duck was added by G. D. Widencr, but was at "no time a serious contender. The opening dash fell to Ballybell, which, racing well in the going, caught Dunsandel tiring in the final sprint to win going away. A moderate band went to the post for the second race, the winner turning up in Mackenzie, an outsider, which went into a long lead at once and made everv post a winning one. Basilius, the favorite, had a rough trip in the early racing, but at no time was dangerous, War Note finishing an easy second. Trainer Kurrick elected to win with Nutcracker in the third, a handicap at a mile, and the son of Thrush justified expectations by winning after a spirited brush with Jock Scot until the sixteenth post, where he shook off his opponents and drew clear to win easily. The long-distance race at one mile and a quarter was a popular affair, and was accounted for by Rockiwrt, which, under a capable ride by Kum-mer. went to the front turning for home and won in hollow fashion. The final race attracted an unwieldy field of cheap maidens, among which Chief proved the best after an exciting contest witli Joe Joe, which set the pace from the start. George Odom will ship King Plaudit to Latonia Monday to be a starter in the Latonia Championship Stakes. E. R. Thomas purchased the two-year-old Heavy Weapon from A. K. Macombcr at private terms.
