BIG NEW MEN IN ENGLISH RACING LONDON, England, October 1. The most recent addition to English racing is Joseph Watson, a maker of soap in a large way. He paid 0,000 for The Tetrairch Abbazzia yearling filly aniL 5,000 for The Tetrurch Allash yearling colt at Doncaster. and took Lord Glanely to 7,000 for the Swynford Blue Tit colt. Alec Taylor, the veteran trainer, will shape the Watson horses. Mr. Watson has also bought the famous Muntou training establishment at Newmarket from Alec Taylor, who will therefore continue in his old home. Watkiu Williams, who bought so many of the high priced yearlings at the Doncaster sales, is a shipping magnate of Cardiff, Wales, and a protege of lird Glanely. He began racing with poor luck, having bought the four-year-old Tom Pepper, winner of the Chester Cup. for 0,500, which died a few days after .the sale. Sir Alec Black, the English racing man. and owner of Tlie Panther, is an owner of fishing trawlers and several times a millionaire, 46 years old. He began life as a teacher, drifted into the fish Industry as a clerk at .75 a week, saved every penny as his wages increased with his work, and "made his way to wealthy and control by syndicate buying of fishing vessels. He lives at Hull, Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, a reat fish center, and was .born at Grimsby.
