The Brookdale Stables Corenzio carried off the honors at Woodbine this afternoon when he won the ,000 added Lansdowne Nursery Handicap for two-year-olds bred in Canada. This race is one of the old fixtures of the Canadian turf and has always been one of the big attractions at the fall meetings of the Ontario Jockey Club. In todays running Corenzio carried top weight of 120 pounds, came from behind after folloAving the leaders to the stretch turn, and aaoii in easy fashion at the end by a couple of lengths. The J. K. L. Ross entry, Affectation and Brynthona, AA-ere favorites. Affectation set a dazzling pace for half a mile, but when the real test came she tired and Avas beaten for second place by Push Pin. Another brilliant assemblage gathered at this beautiful race course and much enthusiasm was in evidence. The Sef ton Steeplechase furnished one of the best finishes seen here in a jumping race in .some time, McCorburn, Superba and Greek Patriot being necks apart passing tlie judges. Sunreigh, brother to Sun Briar, again proved a disappointment. He AA-as a heavily backed favorite for the opening dash, but the best he could do was to finish third, Stacy Adams and Finery beating him out in a driving finish. Baby Grand earned an easy victory in tlie Rothschild Cup. He gave away lumps of weight, run away from his opponents when he got ready and was under restraint at the end. The pace was fast, the first three-eighths being run in :34, with Baby Grand closing on the leaders with a rush. L. McDerniott had the mount on the Thorncliffe Stable horses this afternoon. There has been some disagreement with J. McTaggart and his employers, which means that this rider will probably ride free lance for the remainder of the Canadian season. W. C. Weant Avill turn out the majority of the thirty-odd horses he has in training. Half a dozen" of them went Avrong recently, among them Sea Way, De Land, Joe Campbell, Lothair, Arizac and Moss Fox II. Tlie ten yearlings Avhich Weant OAvns in partnership witli J. Bruce Head have been sliOAVing up Avell in their trials, and a flattering offer has been turned down for the yearling by Moss Fox II. Weant and Head have fifteen mares on their place in Kentucky, besides the stallions Moss Fox II., Leo Skonley and Master Roberts. John Hoshor and Lazy Lou have been added to the schooling list by starter Morrissey. G. B. Finnegan left tonight AA-ith his horses for Richmond, Va., to be on hand for the opening of the fair meeting, which is scheduled to begin on Tuesday next. J. P. Ross AA-ill act as racing secretary. Before leaving Mi-. Finnegan made arrangements with J. F. Hynes to take over eight thoroughbreds, which lie will ship to Toronto from Maryland, to be schooled through the field this fall with the idea of making steeplechasers of them for next year. Clarence Buxton found it necessary to destroy the racer Kashmir, Avhich bolted into the fence at the top cf the home stretch in the seventh race yesterday. Buxton carried an insurance of 6,000 on Kashmir until Sunday last, when the policy expired.
