1 I f c t i - i J i : i i I j j i j , TO LEAVE FOR CUBA SOON Big Kentucky Shipment Goes October 24 Montreal Special on the Way. LOUISVILLE, Ky., October 17. General Manager Frank J. Bruen of the Cuba -American Jockey and Auto Club has just arrived here after a tour of the various American and Canadian racing centers in the interest of the forthcoming winter race meeting in Havana. He reports having met witli encouraging success in his mission of interesting the horsemen in the meeting, and declares that the number and class of horses that will bo forwarded to Oriental Park will exceed all previous records. Churchill Downs is the last point that Mr. Bruen will visit, and after lie has completed full arrangements for the dispatching of the big Cuban special that is scheduled to leave this city October 24 he will depart for Havana well satisfied with what he has accomplished. During the course of his visit to the different tracks Mr. Bruen has been compelled on numerous occasions to correct the popular impression pravailing among horsemen and others that living in Havana is so much more costly than in the United States. On the contrary, he stated that living expenses in the Cuban capital are lower than in many of the large American centers of population. There are high-priced hotels that cater to the wealthy, but there are also an abundance of moderate-priced hostelries where American visitors can live within their means. The special that will leave Louisville carrying the horses that arc racing on the Kentucky circuit will comprise fourteen horse cars, several Pullmans and day coaches for trainers and stable hands, and will be the largest of its kind ever to leave for a foreign country. The revised list of stables that have engaged space, together with the number of horses, follows: T. C. McDowell, 12; J. O. and G. H. Keene, 15; W. F. Knebelkamp, 15; M. Goldblatt, 10; E. In addition to these there will be quite a number of small stables to go in the shipment, while a number of owners who arc yet undecided are expected to fall in line and ship some horses. Among the jockeys who have engaged reservations on the special are: J. Howard, J. McCoy, R. McDermott, G. Fields, A. Pickens, W. Lilley, P. Long and J. Francis. 4
